Zikir Sa Kureung Lhee Ploh sebagai Model Tarbiyah-Ta'dib dalam Pendidikan Agama Islam

Abstract

Studies on tarbiyah and ta’dib in Islamic religious education have largely relied on normative-textual approaches, analyzing these concepts through Qur'anic verses and exegetical views without examining how they actually operate within a living community's practice. This article addresses that gap by reading the Sa Kureung Lhee Ploh dhikr from the Sibak Krung Woyla community in West Aceh as a model of character education in which the body functions as both medium and method of tarbiyah-ta’dib. This qualitative study combines textual analysis of the dhikr text with long-term participant observation of its practice since 2022, and reads text and practice hermeneutically as explaining one another. The findings show three things: first, the text constructs a kind of tarbiyah curriculum by systematically mapping the Arabic letters onto the entire human body; second, the body functions as a locus of ta’dib where Qur'anic values are instilled as embedded adab rather than mere cognitive knowledge; third, the communal, repetitive, and led practice of dhikr works as a pedagogical method that keeps the first two dimensions alive. This study contributes a body-based character education model grounded in lived practice, and suggests that formal Islamic religious education may consider repetition, collective engagement, and bodily involvement as part of its strategy for habituating akhlak.
